What’s up guys! How’s everyone doing this fine Friday eve? Can you say "LONGEST WEEK EVER” yes…”FRIDAY SAVE ME” please! :) Well...I’ve recently gotten back on my workout game and wanted to share some of the things I like to do to stay motivated...
1. Switch Up Your Workout Routine
Lets face it, workout routines can easily become boring and mundane day after day. To stay motivated, switch up the workout(s) you do each session. You can re-excite your workout by switching off on muscle groups you exercise.
For example, on Mondays & Wednesdays I'll incorporate different leg exercises, on Tuesdays & Thursdays I'll mix up my upper body back and arms exercises. This gives my muscles a chance to rest and recover between groups and keeps my workouts interesting.
2. Find a Workout Buddy
Workout buddies work wonders! Try saying that 3x fast! When I say wonders, I mean they can really boost your confidence and morale. If you have a friend who is also into fitness and working out make a date to join the same gym or invite them over for a P90x session at your house. Working out with a partner can encourage you to stay on track, be consistent and accountable. Plus, you can share your experiences and exchange ideas with your new workout buddy.
3. Track Your Workout
Today’s crazy tech market has so many cool fitness devices to choose from. Tracking your fitness allows you to visualize your results and analyze your fitness behaviors. Fitness trackers are a great way to continually monitor your fitness weaknesses and strengths.
I have the Fitbit which I totally love because I can set my daily step goals and this motivates me to move around as much as possible. The Fitbit also allows me to compete with friends and complete fun challenges.
If you're not into keeping up with the Tech-Joneses, get yourself a good old fashion note book to track your workouts, meal plans, and fitness goals. Ultimately, seeing your goals written out can help to improve your progress.
4. Join a Class
There are times when you may need something new in the fitness world, something fresh to jump-start enthusiasm. My advice to re-spark that interest is to join a fitness class. Joining a class is a great way to stay motivated because it's usually a weekly routine activity and something you can constantly look forward to. It also allows for social interactions and opportunities to make workout friends.
My favorite classes at the gym are spin classes. They are fast and upbeat...the music is loud and your blood and adrenaline gets pumping. Feeling that energy in the room is phenomenal and has the power to motivate anyone!
5. Give Yourself a Monthly Reward
Who doesn’t appreciate a great prize for their good efforts. After achieving the goals you’ve set for yourself, you deserve a nice reward. Get your nails done, hair did, or buy a new outfit!
My favorite type of reward is a new workout outfit. It’s fun to be stylish at the gym or even just stylish for a neighborhood jog. The right types of clothing for working out really make a huge difference in the way you feel and move when you exercise. Don’t be afraid to pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for sticking to your goal. YOU DID IT, YOU DESERVE IT!
