Halloween is right around the corner and I thought it would be fun to share my Dia de los Muertos skull inspired makeup!..
Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration honoring those friends and family members who have passed away. During these days traditions call for special dishes in honor of the deceased along with fun colorful sugar skull decorations.
If you’re undecided on a Halloween costume for 2017, hopefully this post will inspire you. This was my first time trying this makeup style and it was so much fun! I will definitely answer the door like this when passing out candy to trick-or-treaters this year.
Using the products below (listed under my 5 steps), here are the basic steps I followed when putting this look together.
On a clean moisturized face apply a face primer, foundation, and your favorite highlight. Heavily highlight the cheekbones, nose, and chin.
Using a black eyeliner pencil draw an outline for the hollows of the eyes, outline the skeleton nose on the tip of your nose, and draw lines from your cheekbones to the corners of your mouth. Add a unique design on the chin. Apply a cream pencil on the eyelids for color and dimension.
Darken the hallows of the eyes by filling them in with a gel eyeliner and topping this off with a black eye shadow. Darken all the black lines and continue adding small designs of your choice. Fill in the nose and apply colorful eyeshadow to the eyes.
Contour using a dark brown eyeshadow or dark bronzer underneath the black cheekbone lines and around the perimeter of the face. Add eyeshadows to the chin to match the eyelids. (Optional) Draw a spiderweb design in the center of the forehead. Create small half circles around the hallows of the eyes and draw more desired designs over the eyebrows and inner cheek area.
Add glitter primer and glitter to the tops of the eyelids. Apply lipstick and draw black lines around the lips for teeth. Add a coat of black mascara and a pair of false eyelashes. For the final touch, add a cute floral headband to finish the look for Halloween success!
Use this as a guideline to create your own Dia de los Muertos Halloween look! There are endless ways you can recreate this skeleton makeup, let me know if you've tried this and how it turned out!
